Event Safety Management

Waterman 5 provides aquatic safety management in the form of race course design, consultation, and certified rescue personnel for open-water aquatic events. We have worked with organizations such as Swim Natation Canada (SNC), the International Triathlon Union (ITU), Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) and more. We are dedicated to providing our clients with the safest race courses possible. Unlike other sporting events, managing safety in aquatic environments calls for a significant amount of knowledge, training and specialized equipment.

This service includes:

Safety, Search and Rescue Plan

This service includes the development of a custom safety, search and rescue plan in conjunction with specific site locations, race course features, user groups, and national and international sanctioning standards to provide race organizers and athletes with peace of mind. A review and editing of existing plans for each event may also be done.

Aquatic Race Course Design

Race course design is an important component of mitigating the risk associated with an aquatic event. Waterman5 will review the design following provincial/state, national, and international standards and provide ongoing recommendations for the host organizing committees on site selection.

Race Day Coordination

In addition to developing a customized Safety, Search and Rescue Plan Waterman5 can provide a coordinator on race day that will assist in the coordination and briefing of all aquatic-related resources including but not limited to; lifeguards, boat/personal watercraft (PWC) operators, event staff, volunteers, and participants. This coordinator will act as the primary point of contact during all phases of the event depending on the type of event, scope, size of the course, and the number of participants.

Safety and Supervision

Our team of qualified Lifesaving Society-certified lifeguards are trained in Basic First Aid, CPR, and the lifesaving practices specific to their certification. In addition, we have certified boat and personal watercraft (PWC) operators who will provide motorized support services. Services include but are not limited to, participant supervision, course traffic control, and event-related water transportation delivery during the water portion of the event.

Course Setup and Take Down

Course setup will be completed in advance of the event start time based on the Race Director’s specifications and measurements. Once the aquatic event, our team will retrieve the course markers and return them to the Race Director.

Aquatic Safety Training
