National Lifeguard Award

This course provides advanced training in water rescue techniques, first aid, CPR, and pool operations management. The Lifesaving Society ’s National Lifeguard (NL) certification builds on the fundamental skills, knowledge, fitness, judgment and values taught in Bronze Cross and Bronze Medallion.

Duration: 40 hours / 20 hours per option

Co-delivery: This certification may be co-delivered with the following

  • Intermediate First Aid CPR-C and AED
Clinic content:
  • Lifeguarding Principles and Procedures
  • Water Rescue and First Aid
  • Communication and Teamwork
  • Emergency Response Protocols
  • Physical Conditioning
  • Risk assessment and Management in Aquatic Environments
  • Aquatic Supervision

Note: Additional training may be taken for specific aquatic environments including: waterparks, waterfronts, and surf.

Prerequisites
  • Ability to complete a 400m timed swim
  • Bronze Medallion is the prerequisite for NL Pool and Waterfront options
  • NL Pool option is the prerequisite for NL Waterpark option
  • NL Waterfront is the prerequisite for NL Surf option

The course is limited to 12 participants per instructor. Registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable
