Bronze Medallion (20 Hrs)

Bronze Medallion Award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defense and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim. Includes CPR A , One-rescuer CPR and choking maneuvers for an adult casualty.

Prerequisite(s): Bronze Star or 13 years old

Bronze Cross (20 Hrs)

Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers that want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes CPR C, one and two-rescuer CPR And choking maneuver’s for adult, child and infant casualties.

National Lifeguard Award (NL)

(40 Hrs/ 20 Hrs per Option)

The Lifesaving Society is the standard setting body for lifeguarding in Canada. The Lifesaving Society ’s National Lifeguard (NL) certification builds on the fundamental skills, knowledge, fitness, judgment and values taught in Bronze Cross and Bronze Medallion.

Recognized as the standard for lifeguards in Canada, NL training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard.

The primary role of the NL Lifeguard is the prevention of emergency situations and the timely and effective resolution of emergencies. The NL certification prepares lifeguards to fulfill this role as professional facilitators of safe, enjoyable aquatics. Additional training may be taken for specific aquatic environments including: waterparks, waterfronts, and surf.

Prerequisite(s): Bronze Medallion is the prerequisite for the NL pool and waterfront options, the NL pool option is the prerequisite for the NL waterpark option, and the NL waterfront is the prerequisite for the NL surf option.
